Why is it important to keep my tube properly inflated?
Under-inflation causes the tube to sit low in the water. When a tube sits lows it is subjected to additional stresses from being dragged through the water rather than being pulled across it. This additional stress will cause the air in the tubes to displace and the tube may rupture.
In addition, that same stress will cause nylon covers to tear and tow ropes to stretch. Lastly, extra gas is wasted because the boat cannot properly plane off.
How do I know if there is enough air in my tube?
Your tube should be very firm and covered tubes should be wrinkle-free.
One test is to have an adult stand on the tube. If they only sink a couple of inches, there is enough air. If they sink more than that, more air should be added.
Which pump should I use?
Towable tubes need to be full of air and properly maintained for long product life and ultimate performance. In order to properly inflate and maintain tubes, you must have the proper equipment. The proper inflator has to pump a high volume of air while having enough pressure to stretch the PVC.
It is important to note that tubes do not require high pressure pumps; they are low pressure / high volume products. If you could measure the pressure in a fully inflated tube, it would be around 2 PSI.
12v Turbo Air Pump
Not your standard 12v pump, the Turbo 12v is an extremely powerful portable pump for your boat or car. Specifically designed for inflating towables and large water park items to the proper pressure with impressive speed (2.8 psi). Includes deflate option, heavy duty cable and alligator clips, and Kink-proof hose with attached fittings.
110v Air Pump
The 110 Volt pump will make short work of inflating or deflating anything with air in it. The 110 volt pump is constructed of quality materials, a heavy duty motor with solid state housing and a crush resistant hose. Specifically designed for rapidly inflating towables to the proper pressure (2.6 psi max). Convenient deflate option saves the day (at the end of the day). Includes Kink-proof hose with attached fittings.
How do I maintain my tube for longer product life?
It is not enough to simply fill it up the tube and go. If you leave a full tube sitting in the sun for any length of time, it will expand. Either store it in the shade or let some air out.
However, if the tube is stored out of the sun in a cool place or it sits in cool water, you may need to add air.
Heat expands, cold contracts. Check and adjust inflation levels each time you use your tube. Not only will you extend the life of your product, you’ll increase your fun level as well!
